Evaluation Questions- Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The Call is a similar film to ours in the fact that there is a middle aged male antagonist and a teenage victim. Brad Anderson is the director, who is most known films such a The Machinist, which is also a thriller.

The Box Office:

Budget:  $13,000,000 (estimated)

Opening Weekend:

 $17,118,745 (USA) (15 March 2013)

Gross:

$51,872,378 (USA) (7 June 2013)

The distributor's are Tristar Pictures and Warner Bros Pictures. We would want our film would also be distributed by these companies as they are very well known companies, especially Warner Bros, and if people see that the film is distributed by a company which has distributed many good films, they will be more likely to watch. But where as The Call was produced by Troika Pictures, WWE Studios and Stage 6 Films ours is produced by Blackout Productions.

The Call achieved one award as well as being nominated for 10 others. According to Box Office the film was supposed to earn around $11-$12 million, on its opening weekend within three days it had earned $17 million. The film cost around $13 million to produce and Box Office takings exceeded $64 million. I think that our film would therefore be successful as it has similar features to The Call for example the role allocation of a teenage girl as the victim and a middle aged male antagonist and some of the location spots such as the woods and the antagonist's house. As our film is similar we would expect to have similar amounts The Call
Where as The Call was made in America and includes American actors such as Halle Berry, ours would be made in the UK, meaning that it would probably do better in the UK than The Call does due to it being advertised more and including actors and actresses that people in the UK will know better.
